How do I choose a width?
What size harness should my dog wear?
XS & Small Dogs - Girth lengths 9"-20" by 1/2" wide - Best for dogs under 20 lbs.
Medium Dogs - Girth lengths 12"-30" by 3/4" wide
Large & XL Dogs - Girth lengths 19"-38" by 1" wide
The most accurate way to choose the correct size range is to measure your dog - but don't worry, it's easy!
A fabric dressmaker's tape measure is easiest and most accurate. Or, a piece of string can also be used and then measured.
Measure the dog's girth (around the ribcage at the
widest point) comfortably snug against the fur while the dog is standing.
Take the actual measurement and add 5% to determine the best size range.
Example: Actual measurement is 20" + 5% = 21"

Note: Leash attaches to both D-rings. While harnesses are a very effective walking and training tool, they should never be left on an unattended pet and are not intended for full-time use.
If your dog is excitable or is a puller, we recommend the Roman style harness for maximum security. While step-in style harnesses are very popular for their ease of use, they can also be easy for some dogs to escape from.

I bought this harness and matching leash for my 8 lb. dog about 7 years ago. She started to chew the leash and it was replaced not long ago. She recently started to chew the harness. Both items were replaced for the cost of shipping.
These harnesses are great! I have the Roman one and the step in one. Both are great no problems with them.
I like the harness and the leash, but my Chihuahua can slip out of it if I pull the leash and she doesn’t move with it. I feel that it’s tight enough so I’m not sure what to do?
Hi Vicki, We’re sorry to hear that the step-in style harness is not the right fit for your pup. While step-in style harness work well for some dogs, they can be easy for others to slip out of. Sizing is a concern. Small is too small for my 5 pound toy poodle!

While the quality is great, the width of the strapping for size small is too small for our dogs. For a Chihuahua, it might be perfect, but for rambunctious Jack Russells, the narrow strapping would create pressure points rather than dispersing their exuberance with wider strapping. Sadly, I will be returning the harness.

My cocker spaniel hates harnesses that go over his head. When I found this harness he became such a happy boy at walk time. We both love it! I have used lupine for over 20 years. I never used any other brand!
About 10 years ago I bought this harness and collar. It was washed in the washing machine occasionally, she swam in a pond with it, ran like the wind, and it still looks great! My dog has now passed away but I'm sure we could have used it another 10 years.
I would defiantly purchase this again in the future.

I bought a collar 3 years ago and have been so happy with it that I wanted to get a matching harness. I didn't measure well and ended up with a size that was too small. Excellent customer service via outreach to me to help ensure that I got the right size upon reorder. Looks and fits great!
We have the step in harness and leash for our Great Pyrenees. (Puppy Love) She is 107 lbs of pure muscle. She is a puller when she sees a rabbit ( squirrel, deer, bird, cloud, shadow, etc). We went through the Kong and Pug harnesses and they both failed. Gave this one a try and ,although a little dirty and faded, it’s still in fantastic condition. It is used everyday. Great product.
My Harley has chew at least 3 harness up. Just buy another. Did not know they could be replaced. I like this style it fit,s good.
Absolutely perfect for our Havanese puppy! Much better choice than (previously purchased) Roman style harness. Good quality and attractive styling. Would definitely buy again
